The 2024 GSA Abstract Submission Process has now closed.

**Due to the high volume of papers submitted, we are not accepting late submissions. 

For those that have submitted a paper, you will be notified of the outcome by Monday 29 July.

Please read the associated terms and conditions before submitting your paper as these are the terms you are accepting during the submission process.

Presenting Your Research

Verbal Presentation

  • Successful applicants for verbal presentations will be allocated a total of five minutes presentation time consisting of four (4) minutes presentation time plus one (1) minute for audience questions and answers – the time allowance will be strictly enforced
  • There will be free-paper sessions allocated within the three-day program
  • Successful applicants will be randomly allocated to a date and time. Once this occurs, no changes can or will be made
  • All accepted abstracts for verbal presentation will be published on the official ASM event app
  • All successful applicants for a verbal presentation must register to attend the ASM

E-Poster Presentation

  • All successful applicants for poster presentation will be required to supply their poster for electronic display for the duration of the ASM.
  • Further details pertaining to an electronic presentation will be supplied to the successful poster authors.
  • Selected poster presenters will be required to attend the ASM and present a short snapshot of their research – date and time TBA

Peer Review Process

The Organising Committee invites abstract submissions for any topics relevant to General Surgery. All abstracts are to be submitted online – papers cannot be emailed.

Be sure to read the terms and conditions prior to submitting your paper. Failure to do so will not exclude you from being bound by the terms and conditions, and you will be asked to acknowledge as such during the submission process. 

All abstracts will be subject to peer review by the GSA Research & Scholarships Committee. Successfully scored papers will be allocated to a podium or e-poster presentation as determined by the Committee. 

  • All abstracts submitted must be original work
  • The submitting author is responsible for the accuracy of the abstract
  • Changes to abstracts after submission will not be possible
  • Changes in presenting author will not be possible so please ensure you as the submitting author are in a position to attend the ASM
  • Registration is a condition of the abstract submission process and the presenting author is required to register to attend the ASM in order to present
  • All abstracts will be blind-reviewed by members of the GSA Research & Scholarships Committee
  • The peer-review process may take up to six weeks to complete
  • The Committee’s decision on selected papers is final and not open to discussion or reconsideration
  • Requests for feedback on paper/s will not possible due to the large volume of papers received
  • Should your paper be selected for a podium and / or e-poster presentation, you will be issued with a certificate of presentation in your name – the presenting author – only
