Prof Bernard Dallemagne is recognized worldwide as an outstanding pioneer and Surgeon in Digestive and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospital of Strasbourg and a Researcher in the field of minimally invasive surgery at the IRCAD Institute of Strasbourg.
Born in 1955, he studied at the University School of Medicine in Liège (Belgium) where he graduated in Medical Studies with Honors in 1981 and in General Surgery in 1987. Head of the Department of Surgery at the Cliniques Saint-Joseph in Liège Belgium, he accepted to join in 2006, as a member of the Faculty, the Department of Digestive and Endocrine Surgery of the University Hospital of Strasbourg under the leadership of Professor Jacques Marescaux. In 2006, he has also joined the IRCAD (Research Institute Against Digestive Cancer) and the EITS (European Institute for TeleSurgery) as Scientific co-director.
Dr Dallemagne is a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and the first to successfully perform and report the laparoscopic approach to Nissen fundoplication. Breaking ground when using endoscopic procedures in the field of general surgery, his publications include clinical research in the areas of cholecystectomy, esophagectomy, endoscopic fundoplication, vagotomy, abdominal pain, and pancreatitis. He co-partnered with Professor Jacques Marescaux in performing the first NOTES transvaginal cholecystectomy in April 2007. His areas of interest are medical and surgical aspects of esophageal and foregut disorders, bilio-pancreatic diseases, minimally invasive and image-guided surgery.
Dr Dallemagne is a prominent member of many international surgical societies including the Belgian Group of Endoscopic Surgery and the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery and other interventional techniques. In 1996, Dr Dallemagne received the EXCEL award from the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons.
He has authored over one hundred and twenty peer-reviewed scientific publications and nearly two hundred videos. As a guest speaker, he took part in more than three hundred and fifty national and international conferences.
