Prof Matthias Wichmann FRACS

Prof Matthias Wichmann is a General Surgeon with sub-specialist interest in Emergency, Rural, Colorectal and Minimally Invasive Surgery, based in Mt. Gambier, South Australia.
Matthias completed his surgical training in general and visceral surgery at the University of Munich and Bavarian Chamber of Medicine, Germany in 2002 before moving to Australia and receiving his FRACS in 2007. He has been a Consultant General Surgeon at Mt Gambier General Hospital since 2006.
Prior to moving to Australia, he completed two years of research in the US – at Michigan State University and Brown University. His research interests include colorectal and emergency surgery; and surgical interests of gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery, minimal invasive surgery, and endoscopy. He has published more than 80 original papers and book chapters, and is co-editor of four surgical textbooks
He is an active member of the Board of Directors for General Surgeons Australia.
He is married with three adult children.
