Prof Arul Immanuel is a highly regarded consultant surgeon specialising in General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery. He holds the position of Clinical Lead of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and is Professor of Robotic Surgery at the Northern Oesophago-Gastric Unit (NOGU) located at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Arul returned to the UK after a two-year fellowship at the Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide, Australia. He has undergone further training in minimally invasive cancer surgery in Japan, Hong Kong, Netherlands, Germany and China.

With a comprehensive range of interests, Prof Immanuel focuses on all aspects of oesophageal and gastric surgery, including cancer and complex revisional benign surgery. He has established the Robotic Oesophago-Gastric programme in Newcastle, and specialises in therapeutic endoscopy, offering procedures such as endoscopic resection for oesophageal and gastric cancer.

Arul has an extensive publication record and has presented his work nationally and internationally.
