Prof Eva Angenete

Professor of Surgery – University of Gothenburg, Sweden

Prof Eva Angenete is Professor of Surgery at the University of Gothenburg and a consultant colorectal surgeon at Sahlgrenska University Hospital. She combines clinical work with research, maintaining a strong focus on translating clinical challenges into meaningful research questions. Alongside her research, she holds a leadership role at the University of Gothenburg.

Her research centres on improving outcomes for patients with rectal cancer through better surgical strategies, improved imaging, and translational approaches. She leads an independent, hospital-based research group and works in close collaboration with translational scientists. She has led and participated in large national and international clinical studies and has extensive experience as national principal investigator in multicentre collaborations. Her research also includes a strong focus on patient-reported outcomes.

She now leads the international Latitude study, a collaborative effort across Nordic and UK centres investigating lateral lymph node management in rectal cancer.

Her work has been recognised with the Swedish Surgical Society’s Major Research Award. She has also been a visiting fellow in Leeds and Visiting Professor at St Mark’s Hospital, London.
