Statement of Neutrality

and Safe Space

As a surgical society dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge, collaboration, and patient care, GSA affirms our commitment to the principles of medical neutrality and humanitarian values.

We recognise that conflict, war, and political unrest profoundly affect health systems, healthcare professionals, and the patients they serve. In accordance with international humanitarian law and ethical medical standards, we uphold the right of all people to receive impartial medical care and the duty of medical professionals to provide that care without discrimination.

GSA maintains strict neutrality in relation to political or military conflicts. We do not endorse or oppose any side in such conflicts. Instead, we advocate for the protection of healthcare personnel, facilities, and healthcare services in all settings, and for the freedom of medical professionals to deliver care safely and ethically.

Furthermore, GSA is committed to ensuring that our scientific meetings and other events or gatherings are safe, inclusive, and respectful spaces for all delegates, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, political affiliation, or personal beliefs. We expect all participants to uphold this environment by engaging with one another in a manner grounded in professional respect, compassion, and shared commitment to improving surgical care globally.
